CASTAS
Verdelho (60%) and Arinto (40%)
TERROIR AND VITICULTURE
The Altas Quintas vineyards are located in a very special terroir. They are located at an altitude of 600 metres, on a plateau that develops in a unique way, in the middle of the Serra de São Mamede. The altitude, the mesoclimate conditions in this area and the soils with medium production potential make this location so special. The vineyard is managed under an integrated protection programme.
The Verdelho and Arinto grapes for this Reserva Branco were hand-picked from the best plots into 20kg boxes during September. The grapes were quickly transported to the winery. The bunches and berries were sorted at the entrance to the winery.
VINIFICATION
Fermentation took place with battonage in new French oak barrels at a controlled temperature of 14ºC, followed by ageing for 4 months in the same barrels. This was followed by ageing in stainless steel tanks on fine lees.
ENOLOGY
António Ventura
TASTING NOTES / HARMONISATION
A citrus-coloured wine, with aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, hints of pumice stone and chalk dust with nuances of slight toast from the oak ageing, with a certain austerity. On the palate, it reveals excellent acidity with obvious freshness, good unctuousness, excellent volume with outstanding balance and a long, persistent finish. It can accompany fish or white meat dishes with some complexity.
